Western Alzheimer’s Team Visit Inisturk!

Recently two our colleagues, Jane Riordan who works as our Dementia Advisor and Amy Walsh who works as our Client Care Co-ordinator, both had the privilege of visiting Inisturk and delivering an educational talk on Dementia to the local community. The Western Alzheimer’s team were blown away by the hospitality and warm welcome extended to them by the wonderful people of Inisurk.

The goal of the visit was to raise awareness, share knowledge, and have meaningful discussions about the impact of Dementia for families and suffers living with a Dementia diagnosis. The journey can be lonely, isolating and deeply traumatic for both sufferers, carers and their families.

Western Alzheimer’s were thrilled to learn of an initiative recently launched by the Inisturk Public Health Nurse, Teresa Crowley, to make the island Ireland’s first Dementia-Friendly Island! We are looking forward to collaborating with everyone involved including Teresa the Public Health Nurse, the Social Inclusion Committee, local community workers, and the wider community of Inisturk to bring this vision to life.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and engaged in the discussion. The visit was really inspiring and a credit to the proactive and caring community coming together to support people living with dementia and their families. We look forward to working on this project together and very much look forward to our next visit to the island.

Inisturk is a true piece of magic off the coast of Mayo.
